Cenomanian bivalves from Batna Mountains (Saharan Atlas, NE Algeria)

چکیده

In the Batna Mountains, Cenomanian Marnes de Smail Formation yield fossiliferous deposits mostly dominated by bivalves. Thirty-five bivalve species were identified, belonging to nine orders, 19 families and 26 genera. Five of them are mentioned for first time from study area (i.e., Nucula ? cf. margaritifera Douvillé, Barbatia (Barbatia) aegyptiaca Fourtau, Cucullaea trigona Seguenza, Arctica inornata d’Orbigny, A. cordata Sharpe). Their distribution provided interesting insights on marine paleoenvironment times. The paleobiogeographic studied bivalves corresponds Tethys Realm. Keywords: Bivalvia, Cretaceous, Cenomanian, Algeria, Batna,

Systematic of Albian - Cenomanian Gastropods and Bivalves from the Kazhdumi Formation, Zagros Basin

The Albian- Cenomanian (Kazhdumi Formation) sediments from northeast of Shiraz, Zagros Basin, represents a carbonate sedimentary succession and contain diverse gastropods and bivalves. Detailed studies on 80 samples of invertebrate macrofauna on two stratigraphic sections led to recognized 2 species and 5 genera of gastropods and 7 species and 13 genera of bivalves assemblages. The abscence of ...

Piecewise delamination of Moroccan lithosphere from beneath the Atlas Mountains

The elevation of the intracontinental Atlas Mountains of Morocco and surrounding regions requires a mantle component of buoyancy, and there is consensus that this buoyancy results from an abnormally thin lithosphere. Lithospheric delamination under the Atlas Mountains and thermal erosion caused by upwelling mantle have each been suggested as thinning mechanisms. We use seismic tomography to ima...

Draft Genome Sequence of Thermophilic Geobacillus sp. Strain Sah69, Isolated from Saharan Soil, Southeast Algeria

Geobacillus spp. are potential sources of novel enzymes, such as those involved in the degradation of recalcitrant polymers. Here, we report a Geobacillus genome that may help reveal genomic differences between this strain and publicly available representatives of the same genus from diverse niches.

Hot upwelling conduit beneath the Atlas Mountains, Morocco

The Atlas Mountains of Morocco display high topography, no deep crustal root, and regions of localized Cenozoic alkaline volcanism. Previous seismic imaging and geophysical studies have implied a hot mantle upwelling as the source of the volcanism and high elevation. However, the existence, shape, and physical properties of an associated mantle anomaly are debated. Here we use seismic waveform ...
